From Silos to Solutions: Kasmo’s Data Migration Service for a Leading AgriTech Company

data migration service

Client Overview

A leading AgriTech company that is redefining the future of agriculture and promoting sustainable farming. They create new and innovative opportunities for farmers, partners and employees. With a prominent team of agronomists, scientists and farmers, our client addresses complex challenges in the agriculture sector and strives to provide biological and climate solutions. Our experts at Kasmo helped this leading AgriTech company by providing them with an exceptional data migration service with Snowflake. But first, let’s look at some of the challenges they were encountering:

Business Challenges:

Our client had been storing data in these four different source systems:

  • SQL Server
  • MongoDB
  • PostgreSQL
  • SAP

These four different data sources were creating several challenges for our client:

Absence of a Centralized Data Platform:

They lacked a centralized data platform which created significant hurdles in their business operations. Since the client was using four different types of data source systems, it resulted in fragmented information repositories. Without a unified data platform, consolidating data into a single source of truth was difficult. Our client also lacked a BI – consumption layer which hindered them from getting detailed insights. They struggled to make strategic decisions and reporting, as all their data was scattered across multiple systems.

Data Silos:

Data silos emerge when data remains isolated within different systems. These silos hindered seamless data flow across the organization, which led to incomplete data visualization. Our client struggled to collaborate effectively and faced challenges in gaining a holistic view of operations.

Manual Data Export and Loading:

Previously, our client was exporting data from source systems into CSV files and then loading them into Power BI manually, which resulted in incomplete data for reporting, affecting their decision-making.

Kasmo’s Solutions:

However, these challenges were promptly solved by Kasmo by providing them with migration to Snowflake Data Cloud. Let’s take a detailed look at how Kasmo implemented their own solution – Data Load Accelerator, which was the core engine that drove the migration of data from different source systems into Snowflake. Our framework can also connect to any on-premises database or any cloud, making it flexible to use.

Data load accelerator is a low-cost, simplified, low-code ELT/ETL framework on top for effortless ELT pipelines. With this framework, our team of experts spends less time creating and configuring ETL/ELT jobs with minimal code required providing high scalability, flexibility, and security to data integration projects.

Kasmo has developed a reusable ELT (Extract, Load, Transform) framework, streamlining data movement from various sources into Snowflake. The extensive cloud data migration service successfully transferred over-

  • 10TB of data,
  • Spanning more than 500 tables from SAP, MongoDB, PostgreSQL, SQL Server.
  • 60 collections from MongoDB.

SAP Data Migration to Snowflake

Integrating SAP with Snowflake was a crucial aspect of the project. By leveraging OData services and Kasmo’s Data Load Accelerator Framework, we seamlessly migrated SAP tables and recreated SAP reports as optimized views in Snowflake. This ensured efficient data transfer and enhanced reporting capabilities within the Snowflake ecosystem.

Key Results Achieved:

  • Migrated vast amounts of data with Data Load Accelerator
  • Helped in efficient data management
  • Developed logical views for ad-hoc querying and improved reporting.
  • Increased speed of reporting to 70%
  • Increased the speed of data-driven decision-making
  • Increased the speed of query performance by 60%
  • Created one Single Source of Truth for all Organizational Data
  • Elimination of Data Silos
  • Built Low Code Framework
  • Completed within a span of only 12 weeks
